Linguine with shell beans; caprese – 8 October 2011

D knew in advance what he was going to cook for a change đŸ™‚ He had cooked a batch of cranberry beans yesterday in some lamb broth I made earlier, adding sage and rosemary from the garden.

He mashed some of the beans and added fresh parsley, and served them over linguine – Garofalo from Costco. He found some dry-farmed Early Girl tomatoes at the Grand Lake farmers’ market today, tasted one, and bought 5 pounds. These were from Tomatero in Watsonville.

I heard this before heading out to buy cheese at the Cheese Board, so got extra bufalo mozzarella to use for Capreses. D, not surprisingly, liked the idea, and made some tonight, using 1/2 a ball of mozz. He put quite a bit of anchovy on each little stack, and I thought it was too much, but it was very good, still.

He chose a wine from Eric Stauffenegger, Chateau Haut-Bana, a “Grand Vin de Bordeaux.” It was, of course, great.
