Spaghetti with pesto; avocado salad – 21 May 2011

D made this very nice and simple dinner.

I’m writing this on the 26th, so I’m not absolutely sure of this, but I think he made this pesto earlier, using a humongous bunch – actually three humongous bunches – of basil I got at the Derby St market for $1 each. Amazing.

I pointed out that an avocado on the kitchen island was ready for use, so he made a salad with that, also using some of the baby lettuces from the garden.

A bit of a splurge, there, on San Pelligrino sparkling water. We get it at Costco, so it’s not terribly expensive, but it’s not quite an “eat local” delicacy, either.

Had two pictures of it that I really liked!

For the wine, D picked out the more expensive of the Uvaggio reds, a Barbera that costs about $16 at the Bowl. I was not convinced it was better than the $10 one, and in fact D said he preferred the cheaper one, after tasting this one. It was certainly very good, just not better by 60%.
