Spaghetti with mushrooms, pinenuts, and parsley with pecorino; cold veggies – 10 February 2011

D made one of his major specialties tonight.

He cooks the mushrooms in oil, adding pine nuts to toast them, and parsley. He tosses all this with spaghetti, and then provides shaved pecorino Romano to strew over the top. I decided to take the photo before the pecorino was applied, so here is the pecorino on its own.

D brought out a small plate of cold veggies to eat before dinner – cauliflower, carrots, fennel slices, and picholine olives. They are nice to eat, and it’s a good time to have them b/c wine is often not enamored of them – at least the carrots and cauliflower.

D decided on a house wine – literally Vino Della Casa – which we both enjoyed. A plain little wine, but very pleasant, and also very cheap at $5.99. Good deal – we’ve had it before and will definitely buy more at the Bowl.
