Pasta with chanterelles; sugar snap peas; salad – 24 January 2011

D cooking – he found chanterelles at the Bowl for about $7/lb, and made a simple pasta with them.

He sauteed them in butter with salt and pepper and tossed them with cooked spaghetti. This simple treatment really let the chanterelle taste shine through. He boiled the sugar snap peas – evidently briefly b/c they were perfect – and tossed them in butter, salt and pepper. The salad was just romaine, peanuts roasted in the shell, and a balsamic vinaigrette. Absolutely great dinner!

D found this “negroamaro” at the Bowl and bought it, even though he wasn’t buying a case (10% off). He says it means ‘dark and bitter’. Though neither of us agreed that it was ‘bitter’, it was indeed good with the food, and for $7.50, hard to beat.
